Analysing Spatial Realizability of Line Drawings Through Edge-Concurrence Tests
نویسندگان
چکیده
This work proves that the realizability of a line drawing without occluding segments can be verfred by checking the concurrence of groups of three lines to a single point. These lines are either those supporting segments in the drawing or new ones added during the test itse~ Although this result was essentiah’y aIreac.@established by W. Whiteley, the presented approach uses the concept of delta-star reductions to obtain all possible spatial realizations and consistent edgelabellings (convex or concave) of a given drawing. As opposed to well-known algebraic approaches, which require a Waltz jlltering preprocessing step before proceeding to the global geometric test, the approach presented herein is based on geometrically interpretable projective conditions which allows an easy localization of the source of eventual inconsistencies.

Shape-from-Image via Cross-Sections
Using structural geometry, Whiteley showed that a line drawing is a correct projection of a spherical polyhedron if and only if it has a cross-section compatible with it. We here enlarge the class of drawings to which this test applies, including those of polyhedral disks. Our proof is constructive, showing how to derive all spatial interpretations, it relies on elementary synthetic geometric a...
متن کاملCore geometry in perspective.
Research on animals, infants, children, and adults provides evidence that distinct cognitive systems underlie navigation and object recognition. Here we examine whether and how these systems interact when children interpret 2D edge-based perspectival line drawings of scenes and objects. Such drawings serve as symbols early in development, and they preserve scene and object geometry from canonic...
متن کاملThe role of edge-based and surface-based information in natural scene categorization: Evidence from behavior and event-related potentials.
A fundamental question in vision research is whether visual recognition is determined by edge-based information (e.g., edge, line, and conjunction) or surface-based information (e.g., color, brightness, and texture). To investigate this question, we manipulated the stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA) between the scene and the mask in a backward masking task of natural scene categorization. The beha...
متن کاملGraph Drawings with Relative Edge Length Specifications
We study plane straight-line embeddings of graphs where certain edges are specified to be longer than other edges. We analyze which graphs are universal in the sense that they allow a plane embedding for any total, strict order on the edge lengths. In addition, we also briefly consider circular arc drawings with relative edge length specifications.
متن کاملOn the Curve Complexity of Upward Planar Drawings
We consider directed graphs with an upward planar drawing on the plane, the sphere, the standing and the rolling cylinders. In general, the drawings allow complex curves for the edges with many zig-zags and windings around the cylinder and the sphere. The drawings are simplified to polyline drawings with geodesics as straight segments and vertices and bends at grid points. On the standing cylin...
